Must-Visit Golf Courses in the Costa del Sol
Club de Golf Aloha
Opened in 1975, Club de Golf Aloha is an extremely well-established course that boasts a world-class, excellently maintained course. Designed in part by Javier Arana and Enrique Canales, the course is laid out over hilly terrain and plays to a par of 72. Aloha features narrow fairways lined with eucalyptus groves and requires precise play is golfers are to score well.
El Chaparral
Run as a family business by Antonio Rubio, El Chaparral is somewhat of a unique course on the Costa del Sol. Designed by Pepe Gancedo, this 6,000-metre course is routed through a wooded valley, navigating canyons and elevation changes to provide the ultimate golf experience. Requiring accuracy and technical skill, this course will test even the most experienced of players.
Finca Cortesin Golf Resort
Despite being a recent addition to the Costa del Sol, Finca Cortesin Hotel Golf & Spa has already developed an impressive reputation. Measuring almost 7,000 metres, the course is one of Europe’s longest layouts and features countless memorable holes. Recognised globally, the World Match Play was hosted here when it was moved to Spain in June 2008.
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande
Regarded as one of the best golf courses in Spain, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande cannot be missed during your golf holiday to the Costa del Sol. Opened in 1964, the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is an excellent experience for players of all abilities. Measuring 6,492 metres, the course features over 100 bunkers strategically placed to protect beautifully moulded elevated greens.
Real Club Valderrama
Situated on the hillside above Sotogrande, Real Club Valderrama is known as one of the best golf clubs in the world. The course was deigned by Robert Trent Jones in 1975 and has since received significant TV coverage. Players may recognise the course as the host of numerous championships including the Volvo Masters and the Ryder Cup.
The San Roque Club
The winter home of the European PGA Tour School, The San Roque Club is a great challenge for all players. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja Mountains, the club boasts two courses of outstanding quality, Whilst the ‘Old’ course navigates deep ravines and strategically-placed water obstacles, the ‘New’ course offers the spectacular views of a nature reserve and the ocean.
