Designed by Robert Trent-Jones, the course opened in 1989 and has established a world-class reputation, previously hosting the Portuguese Open in 1991. Stretching 6,300 metres from the back tees, the course has a par of 72, and has a classic layout. Warmed by the Gulf Stream in winter and cooled by the Atlantic breeze, Estela Golf Club is the perfect course for year-round golf.
Vidago Palace Hotel Golf Course
Originally designed by Mackenzie Ross in 1936, Vidago Palace Hotel Golf Course was redesigned by Cameron & Powell in 2010. Situated in the grounds of Vidago Palace, a former summer retreat for King Manuel II, and the surrounding Centenary Park, the club benefits from the charm and heritage of the area. Offering 6,308 metres par-72 18-hole course, changes in elevation play a prominent part on this course. Featuring raised tees and greens, and strategically placed bunkers and greens, players are required to think carefully before each hole is attempted.
Oporto Golf Club
The oldest club in Portugal, Oporto Golf Club was established after a group of British wine exporters laid a basic 9-hole links-style golf course to the south of Oporto. Renovated in 1955 by the architect Mackenzie Ross, the course was developed into 18-holes with a par of 71. Retaining the original style, the course feels like British links, laid over a sandy, undulating land.
Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima
Designed for both amateurs and professionals, Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima is located 12 miles inland, in the centre of Minho. Situated in a hotel resort in the hills overlooking Ponte de Lima, the club offers an 18-hole course with a par of 71. Arranged into two loops of nine holes, each set has different characteristics. Whilst the front nine, known as Quinta de Anquiao, is routed through hilly, forest-like terrain, the back nine, Quinta de Pais, is laid out within a valley.
Club de Golfe de Miramar
Stretching just over 3000 metres along the coastline, Club de Golfe de Miramar is a pleasant links course, inspired by Scotland’s traditional courses. Just 10km southwest of Porto city centre, the club was founded in 1932, with this 9-hole course being designed by Philip Mackenzie Ross. Played with a par of 35, it was redesigned by Howard Swan and has now become one of the most challenging nine-hole courses in Europe
Golfe Amarante
Opened in 1997, Amarante Golf Club offers a short 18-hole layout close to the towns of Amarante and Marco. Located within the Quinta da Deveza Estate, the course stretches over 5,030 metres of mountainous terrain. Apart from the numerous elevation changes, water hazards are present on a handful of holes, threatening play and requiring players to focus on precision.
